Overview

Penrose can be used to proxy or mirror/snapshot an LDAP v3 directory or Active Directory. Penrose Studio provides an easy way to do this through its wizards.

Using Penrose Studio to Proxy LDAP v3 Directory/Active Directory

Step 1 - Launching Penrose Studio

Upon launching Penrose Studio, you click New LDAP Proxy under Partition menu. Please see screenshot below.

Step 2 - RootDSE and Schema

From here, you can enter you own partition name. This can be a host name, ip address, or even any arbitrary name.

You can choose to pick "Map RootDSE" option or/and "Map Active Directory Schema". Please see image below.

About RootDSE

The Root Directory Server Entry (RootDSE) is a vital resource in discovering information about an LDAP directory. The RootDSE was added as part of the LDAP v3 specification, so all LDAP v3-compliant directories should have a RootDSE entry. In Active Directory, it should be used as a starting point for your applications to discover what naming contexts are available, where the domain, schema, and configuration naming contexts are located, and which controls are supported.

Step 3 - Hostname and Credentials

The next step is to enter the directory/Active directory hostname and its credentials. Please screenshot below.

Last Step - optional

And the last step is optional, you can just click Finish.

Publish Mapping and Restarting Server

If you want to upload your current Penrose Studio mapping to Penrose Server and have Penrose Server to display the current uploaded mapping, you need to click this button in order, starting from 1 to 3.
